Never Before!

Blackburn Buccaneers came over to Deeside last Saturday (14/05/11) for their first visit since August 2009. The Bucc's and Phantoms had met on 3 previous occasions with the Bucc's winning twice, both times at Deeside. Thankfully this game went against the trend!
The first period was evenly matched with neither team able to open the scoring despite both having the opportunity of a powerplay.
The second period was a completely different story though as the Phantoms got their game on. New boy Eddie Coreja, playing in only his second game, kept his 100% scoring record by netting the Phantoms first marker just 4 minutes into the session, with an assist from big Brian Chalmers. Scott Dutton came next getting number 2 unassisted as the game hit the half way point. Then it was Eddie's turn again with an assist from Scott for the Phantoms third point less than 2 minutes later. Another 6 minutes passed before Mal Singleton teamed up with Mike Richardson and George Perrett to claim the Phantoms fourth marker. Then, With just over a minute left in the period, Mike managed to get himself another point, scoring the Phantoms fifth goal, with another assist going to George.
The final period got underway in a similar fashion to the second with the Phantoms getting their sixth goal on the 4 minute mark. A different pairing picking up the points this time as Mark Robertson netted the puck and Tom Court provided the assist. The success of the second period was not to be repeated though as no further goals came the Phantoms way. But, on a positive note, the home team didn't give up any goals either even though the Bucc's had the advantage of 2 powerplays. The game ended 6 - 0 in favour of the Phantoms, an historic score as it is the teams first recorded shutout.
As a side note to this, the Phantoms are to participate in a small, sanctioned, home and away series tournament with the Buccaneers of which this was apparently the first game. There was also an attempt to arrange a second leg in Blackburn for the following week but unfortunately the Phantoms were unable to put a squad together at such short notice.
