Three Down...

Postby exussum » 23 Jul 2012, 20:22

The Phantoms played their first game of the 2011 - 2012 season last weekend, at home, the third in a four game series against the Blackburn Buccaneers. The Phantoms came out winners by 7 to 3 but by all accounts it was a closer affair than the previous two meetings.
In fact the Bucc's were first to get on the score sheet with the clock approaching 7 minutes into the first and it took the Phantoms a further 8 minutes before they were able to draw level. Ryan Clarke netting the Deesiders opener assisted by Roland Flook. A little less than 2 minutes later the Phantoms struck again. This time Scott Dutton got the point with another assist from Roland.
When the second period got underway it was the Buccaneers that struck first again, scoring their second goal just over a minute into the session. However the Phantoms wasted no time in replying. The duo of Ryan and Roland got together again for the Phantoms third marker. As the game was approaching the half way point the visitors scored their third and final goal of the campaign. The Phantoms had to wait a while before returning the favour. But with 4 minutes remaining in the period Tom court picked up his first point of the game, with Ryan providing an assist this time.
Going into the final session the Phantoms, who were 4 - 3 up, took control of the game. And, although the Bucc's had some chances they were unable to capitalise on them. In under 3 minutes Ryan and Roland teamed up yet again for the Phantoms fifth goal, giving them each 4 points on the night. Shortly after big Brian Chalmers got number 6 unassisted and then George Perret finalised the Phantoms score, getting number 7 in the fifty sixth minute, assistaed by Nic Noyer.
After the game, one spectator commented that the Phantoms "played well together, there was a lot of team spirit and they supported each other".
The final game in the Series will be played on November 13th and, although it is technically a home for the Bucc's, it will be played at Deeside as there is no ice time available at Blackburn.
