Hard Lesson

Postby exussum » 23 Jul 2012, 20:20

The Phantoms were really disappointed when their first game of the season (16/10/10) against the University of Manchester Metros had to be cancelled but pleased in equal measure to find that another game had been arranged at short notice for the following weekend. Old friends/ rivals the Altrincham Black Bears were more than happy to take advantage of the ice time.
And take advantage they did! As in previous meetings the Bears were on good form, turning the game into a lesson in good positional passing hockey for the Deesiders.
It took the visitors about 7 minutes to warm to their task but after that the chances and markers came on a steady basis. By the end of the first period the Phantoms were 7 goals adrift and unable to make any kind of real dent in the Bears defence.
The Phantoms seemed to get a slightly better grip on the game during the second period although they were on the long change. Despite this the visitors still managed to find the net 4 times compared to the home sides single goal which was provided by Phil Bide from Scott Dutton.
In the final period the visitors got back into their stride again, matching their first period score, while the Phantoms managed only another 2 markers, one from Sam Hunt assisted by Mark Robertson and the other a single handed effort from scott Dutton.
Inspite of the final score the Phantoms had enjoyed the game and played hard, everyone of them acknowledging that the Black Bears were on top form and had deserved the win.
